  1. In addition to actual reporting, the NYT creates newslike ads for the fossil fuels industry. This results in disproportionate attention on high-risk approaches that involve anything other than phasing out fossil fuel use.

  2. Do you want Highlander 2? Because this is how we get Highlander 2…

  3. Yeah..let’s fight a freakin‘ star before fighting capitalism. SPLENDID idea! 🤣👍

  4. And it if wasn’t for Reed Richards and his meddlesome Fantastic-4 he and his loyal Moloids would rise from Subterrania and rule the surface world!

  5. Powerful people take this seriously, so it’s worth taking seriously. Thankfully lots of resistance to field testing and funding for it, but there will be much bigger push soon (especially as climate impacts worsen)

  6. « Ooops ha ha! Houston we have a problem, you’ll laugh, we’ve lost control of the giant parasol. The problem now is global cooling. Plot twist ! »

  7. Yeah cuz crops like having less sunlight, brilliant plan xD

  8. This sounds like a HORRIBLE idea.

Gee idk. Maybe just end capitalism instead?

  9. Phasing out fossil fuels is still needed in the long term to be sustainable, but this isn’t a bad idea to quickly bring the temperatures down. We could counter all the ocean warming since the 80s in a couple years if this were implemented correctly.

  10. Does this scientist not realize that is one of the stupidest ideas humans have came up with in many possible solutions. I mean if we block out the sun then that kind of interferes with photosynthesis; it is literally the link between life vs death for every single plant, tree and crop. Sure, it might cool the earth but it would also cause a massive die off for many forms of life, be it animal or non-animals.

  11. Can’t we like, just stop using fossil fuels? Wouldn’t that he easier?

  12. In my experience, every idea contains the seeds of its own destruction.
A dilemma with technology is that each set of unintended consequences requires a new set of technology solutions. At a small scale, this may be satisfactory. At a global scale, it is a wicked problem with terminal consequences.

  13. That’s what they did to stop the solar powered machines in the Animatrix
