Volodymyr Zelensky has said that territorial concessions to end the war started by Vladimir Putin would require the backing of a referendum in Ukraine.

However, the Ukrainian president told French media that such a move “is not the best option because we are dealing with Putin and it will be a victory for him if he takes part of our territory.”

  2. The best way to support peace is to back Ukraine to the hilt, and put them in full territorial control. But failing that I want Ukraine to decide when and how to compromise.

  3. A referendum, especially a fair and free one, is impossible because parts of Ukraine are occupied and millions of Ukrainians are living abroad, and others have been abducted into Russia. This referendum is useless as long as Russian troops are inside Ukraine, it would be one under duress. Plus, holding a referendum of whether or not half the country should be sent into Russian slavery and be subjected to Russian genocide is cynical, and as I said, it is completely stupid and unrealthe current circumstances.

Also bye bye EU then and bye bye NATO and bye bye Marshall plan 2.0 and hello becoming a Russian vassal state or rather a Chinese one, because with the Western door firmly shut with half the country occupied or even a quarter is enough, means China and becoming a Chinese vassal is the only option.

No nation deserves freedom or can long retain it, which does not win it for itself. Revolutions must be made by the people and for the people.

    Liberty, freedom such sacred words!

    Giuseppe Mazzini

There is one simple way to peace, it is called surrender, as Reagan once said. Surrender today have peace and slavery tomorrow. That is what such a referendum is, a referendum over sending a part of the country into slavery today and the rest at a later time once Russia is ready to attack.

War is horrible, but slavery is worse, and you would be sure that the British People would rather go down fighting than living in servitude.” Churchill, November 1940

The Soviets under Stalin murdered most of the Ukrainians in peace, not in war time. The same will happen under Putin. In fact, the genocide is already in full swing. Also, of course, there is no peace to be had. Where is that delusional idea coming from, Russia wages war against the West, Ukraine is merely a stepping stone. That means mass conscription in the occupied territories and then those Ukrainians will be sent against Western Ukraine and then once those are occupied, the rest of the men that Ukraine still has left will be thrown against Poland, and the rest of NATO.

That is of course just one scenario there are slightly worse and slightly better ones, but the 32 percent should be aware that Putin deals solely in absolutes and will renege on whatever deal is signed within a couple of years.

  4. Ukraine needs to be admitted to NATO at the end of this war, otherwise Russia will cause more violence and destruction in the future.

  5. Ukraine gave up territory in 2014 and it led to this 2022 invasion.

If this happens again we can only anticipate 2030 invasion.

Giving up to the bully is never the way to achieve real peace. That is unless they are willing to truly be under the rule of Russia… But when Russia decides to invade the adjacent countries, it’d be war again.

  6. Any country that says Ukraine should give up territory should also be forced to give up the same percentage of their territory to their enemies.

  7. At this point, a referendum could be organized by the UN in the four regions annexed or partially annexed by Russia, town by town to set the borders properly, if it is even possible

In exchange Russia should allow Ukraine to join NATO, which would prevent for any further invasion in the future

Unfortunately for both sides, if they want more territory gains / less losses, they will need to continue the war
And Russia is likely the one to have more human ressources to do so

It’s a pity to see such a result given the fact Ukraine is in fact a mix of Slavic culture really close to Russia and Belarus and liberal culture closer to the West
Ukraine is literally both at the same time, what Putin didn’t understood, thinking that Ukraine was only a failed state ready to join the Russian empire

  8. How about saying, “we’ll consider giving up territory if we can join NATO to ensure that this kind of thing never happens again. We don’t trust Russian promises.”

  9. Ukraine could have won back in autumn 2022 if they hadn’t faltered and if we had given them what they needed in the terms of military aid and training.

Both the West and Ukraine gave ruZians time to dig in and mobilise when ruZians were on the brink of collapse in late 2022. :/

This way, it’s likely going to end with a stalemate and therefore Ukrainian defeat – losing the Donbass and most of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, which is excruciating.
