• I live in Zürich.

  • On 26.07.2024 I ordered something from interdiscount.ch for a total of CHF 549.65, including CHF 9.70 for "Transportgarantie auf Warenwert"

  • On Monday 29.07.2024 at 14:16 I received an email from DPD titled "Sendung von Interdiscount wurde heute ohne Unterschrift zugestellt". The content of the email (emphasis mine):

    Ihre Sendung {ORDER ID} von Interdiscount wurde heute ohne Unterschrift bei Ihnen an einem sicheren Ort* deponiert.

    Empfänger: {MY ADDRESS}

    *Als "sicherer Ort" gilt:

    • bei Einfamilienhäusern der Brief/Milchkasten und ein nicht einsehbarer, witterungsgeschützter Unterstand
    • bei Mehrfamilienhäusern auch das witterungsgeschützte Treppenhaus

    Your consignment {ORDER ID} from Interdiscount was deposited with you today in a safe place without a signature.

    Recipient: {MY ADDRESS}

    A "safe place" is defined as:

    • for single-family homes, the letter/milk box and a shelter protected from the weather and out of sight
    • In apartment blocks, also the weather-protected stairwell

  • At the time, I wasn't at home, but when I arrived at home a few hours later, there was no package in the parcel letterbox right next to my door.

  • I checked everywhere nearby, but there was no package.

  • I checked the DPD website, which stated:

    Sollten Sie Ihr Paket nicht finden, wenden Sie sich bitte an Ihren Versender. Der Versender wird sich mit unserer Schadenabteilung zur Haftungsklärung in Verbindung setzen. Nach deren Abschluss werden Sie direkt vom Absender informiert.


    If you cannot find your parcel, please contact your sender. The sender will contact our claims department to clarify liability. Once this has been completed, you will be informed directly by the sender.


  • So I emailed Interdiscount about it. They replied by basically telling me to fuck off, and attached this proof of delivery:

    Unsere Abklärungen haben ergeben, dass die Bestellung {ORDER ID} korrekt zugestellt wurde. Somit können weder wir noch der Spediteur die Haftung für diesen Schadenfall anerkennen. Angefügt finden Sie den Zustellbeleg inkl. Zustellfoto.

    Bei Verdacht auf Diebstahl empfehlen wir eine Anzeige bei der Polizei zu erstatten. Erfahrungsgemäss übernimmt die Hausratsversicherung des Empfängers den entstandenen Schaden.

    Our investigations have shown that the order {ORDER ID} was delivered correctly. Therefore, neither we nor the carrier can accept liability for this case of damage. Please find attached the proof of delivery including delivery photo.

    If theft is suspected, we recommend that you file a report with the police. Experience has shown that the recipient's household contents insurance will cover the damage incurred.)

  • Note that in their photo the package is on the ground right in front of the door of my apartment building even though there is a parcel letterbox literally right next to it. The package was clearly not delivered to a safe ("nicht einsehbar") location.

  • In DPD's own terms of service they claim (again, emphasis mine):

    Sendungen, die trotz Abstellgenehmigung nicht zugestellt werden können (fehlende Zugänglichkeit des Abstellorts, fehlender Schutz vor Witterung, Diebstahl usw.), werden gemäss Vereinbarung mit dem Absender entweder an einen DPD Pickup parcelshop oder in das DPD Auslieferdepot gebracht.


    Shipments that cannot be delivered despite a drop-off authorisation (lack of access to the drop-off location, lack of protection from weather, theft etc.) will be taken either to a DPD Pickup parcelshop or to the DPD delivery depot as agreed with the sender.


  • Obviously the shipment was not taken to a DPD pickup shop, but just left in front of my building's door, for anyone to see and steal.

  • I replied to Interdiscount with these details, but they've been ghosting me ever since.

  • I also went to the police and filed a criminal complaint.

  • What can I do about this? I'm a student, I don't have a Hausratsversicherung, and this is actually a lot of money to just get stolen with no recourse. 🙁

  2. If you paid by credit card, you might be able to resolve this with your card provider. Otherwise good luck ‘:)

  3. Send a registered letter with the above information to Interdiscount, and tell them you want your money back within 10 days or you’ll start a Betreibung. A registered letter will at least get the interest of someone else than just a reply-monkey. If they do not resolve the issue then, you will then have to decide whether you want to continue or not.

  4. Do you have a rechtsversicherung? You could also try a credit card chargeback.
