I am so happy for this woman to get the justice she deserves, and for being brave enough to call out how shitty her family have treated her.
Not surprising an ex-guard warned her not to speak out against family.
Happens more often than you think, I know complete strangers off the street who were more supportive of victims than direct family
Not surprised at all.
Someone I know disclosed abuse to her parents and then her sister also came forward with even worse reports. It was a family member and went to court but he was found not guilty on a technicality which was naturally devastating. But the worst for her and her immediate family was seeing the abuser get all the sympathy and good wishes from everyone else and dealing with accusations they tried to ruin a good man and made up lies.
Child abusers regularly get a lot of support from family and friends.
The Grandad saying going to the cops would ruin her life… As if enduring the abuse wasn’t traumatic enough?!
I’m glad she had the strength and bravery to waive anonymity to name them all.
The Shame 😞 so sad that a family would support an abuser…karma is a bitch and may this Offaly family have it ten fold…they are as bad as the uncle 🤬 may she live a good life with her partner and her poor mum
That’s horrible 💔
I’m glad her voice was heard, such strong woman.
This piece of shit should be dead.
I’m sad to say I’m not surprised. Irish people have a tendency to downplay situations, I’m sure we are all familiar with the “ah sure you be’ll be grand, be grateful your alive and its not a lot worse ” the problem is when this mentality get carried into corporate institutions. its unprofessional and serves no justice.
Further more, more often than not victims have to fight tooth and nail just to be heard before they can even bring charges. and even at that the courts proceedings can inflict a lot of further trauma, and this is made worse when cases are drawn out.
Although the argument that “our legal system could be a lot worse and we should be thankful for what we have” could be made. I still believe a lot that our legal system should be thoroughly reviewed.
Not surprised unfortunately. I know 2 people from the same family who came forward to report stuff from when they were kids nearly 30 years ago. He was found guilty and most of the family stood by him. Everyone knows and they’ll openly call them liars. A lot in the community stood by him too. He’s in jail ffs
The saddest part about all of this is that this scumbag admitted to everything he did, got the support of his entire family, his partner (how in the actual fuck), his community, etc.
He admitted it, there is no doubt it’s true, and they all stand behind him and ostracise her and her mam.
What a sick, fucked up culture. It’s why I automatically believe anyone who accuses anyone of this shit. This is the price that victims pay for not maintaining omertà. You get two choices, speak up for yourself and get socially brutalised for it to some extent, or maintain the status quo.

The cost for victims is immeasurable.
