  1. Very sad the racism that destroyed a community. . I hate how in 2024 our communities aren’t as close as we once were. How many of us know our neighbours. We need to share stuff like this.

  2. There are still Chinese families in the surrounding area, many with ancestry from areas of China like Gangzhou. They often have thick east London accents and are bilingual in Mandarin or Cantonese.
    My wife is from China. Living in the area these factors made her quickly feel at home.
    The Poplar are has a genuine “community” feel , particularly around Chrisp streetmarket – we’ll see if that survives modernisation.
