  1. Let’s just be thankful that he did do the interview. It just underscored how hateful, racist and misogynist that the man is. He simply can’t hide it or control himself. No matter what, get off your butt and vote.

  2. TL;DR:

He threw a major tantrum refusing to go on stage while being fact-checked live, and then he blamed the 30-minute delay on “audio problems” and even made a self-righteous rant out of it.

    What a pathetic asshole.

  3. Let me guess why: He was scared, sexist, and racist.

  4. This is what the 35 minute wait that Trump kept bringing up was. There was a stand off on real time fact checking between Trump and event organizers.

  5. “I will not allow anyone to correct the lies I’m planning to tell”

  6. He shot himself in the foot with most black voters and this just enforced it again.

  7. “almost” is doing some heavy lifting there. He tried his power move and failed completely.

Instead of having his staff work with the event personnel to set microphone levels and audio equipment so that he could participate without issues, he had his campaign staff attempt all-or-nothing negotiation tactics in an attempt to avoid being fact-checked. (if they’d focused on the audio levels, it’d have tipped their hand that he’d appear regardless. He spent ample time during his brief appearance onstage whining about microphones and being hard of hearing.)

Over an hour later, he showed up onstage, but only for 35 minutes before his campaign demanded it end. Apprentice episodes were longer. He’s losing stamina and can’t get his dumb ‘negotiation’ tactics to work.

  8. Anyone who wants the deranged buffoon summarily jettisoned from US politics owes the NABJ a debt of gratitude. Hosting the degenerate clown was a contentious decision that ultimately yielded immeasurable dividends.

I don’t care one whit if the felonious moron wants to play to his precious crowd, they’re already on his side and not going anywhere. It’s the voters down the middle that matter and the only thing the weird shit-for-brains crushed the other day was the number of them who’d consider voting for his get-out-of-jail-free card.

  9. I’m glad he ended up going on and I was able to hear his position on key policy issues, such as “Kamala wasn’t black until it was convenient”

  10. Why do journalists keep falling for this? SOP for working with this turd should be to have a prepared statement beforehand.

“Donald Trump was scheduled to debate/townhall/etc here today. Our agreement was to have live fact checking. However, contrary to our agreement, the Trump campaign has insisted to no fact checking at all. Due to this, we have unfortunately decided to cancel the event. We apologize the Trump campaign has forced us into this position.”

  11. I only worry about fact checking when I’m going to tell some lies.

Trump’s fire hose of lies is probably his best quality that gets him in the spotlight and makes money for ALL the news outlets.

  12. Fact checking was supposedly done, Yet he lied about the delay without being contradicted.

  13. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.nj.com/politics/2024/08/trump-almost-stormed-out-of-nabj-interview-without-even-taking-stage-heres-why.html) reduced by 81%. (I’m a bot)

    > Now, it turns out, Trump almost bailed on the program before he even took the stage – insisting that there be no real-time fact-checking of his responses by the panelists and/or an internet page established for just that purpose.

    > "Trump didn't want to be fact-checked live at NABJ, refusing to go onstage, a stalemate so prolonged NABJ leaders were prepping a statement to say why Trump wouldn't show. As Ken Lemon was preparing it, Trump walked onstage …" Sophia Cai, National politics reporter for Axios, tweeted.

    > Trump – who insisted he was wooing Black voters from Joe Biden before the president stepped aside – insulted them in a disastrous interview with the NABJ on Wednesday.

  14. Coward not only won’t go to a debate, he’s nearly too afraid to talk to journalists.

  15. Of course he did. Did the same to CNN about the debate and got his way. They allow him to lie for views.

  16. “Fact checked”

He wanted to be able to ***lie*** unchallenged.

  17. damn what a scumbag of an old russian asset

after throwing a tantrum about not being allowed to lie and causing a delay, he threw another tantrum after being questioned about his racism and lied somemore.

  18. My favorite part was when he said he only came because he thought Kamala was going to be there.

  19. I feel we’re in the middle of a countdown to Trump publicly using a slur starting with the letter N. He’s always testing what he can get away with and maintain the support of his base.

  20. Always makes me laugh how MAGA constantly say “facts don’t care about your feelings” and then cry about being fact checked, literally putting their feelings before facts.
    Always projection. Always

  21. Because he’s soft and he’s wrong. That’s why he complained all the damn time how unfair everything was even when he was the most powerful man in the world.

  22. Every day 45 is not in jail is so embarrassing to our legacy.

  23. This idiot will not become president a second time. He’s speedrunning his own downfall.

  24. Anyone who is confident with their arguments won’t mind fact-checking, live or not.

I think the panel did a decent job but they (and most journalists) should be better prepared on economic claims. They let a lot of Trump’s nonsense go unchecked. His presidency was subpar to terrible on jobs depending on whether we include his badly mismanaged pandemic. Obama/Biden had one of the largest black unemployment drops in history, dropping from about 17% 1 year in to 7.5% by January 2017. The decline after that was much slower, 6.4% by January, 2020 and if course spiked again during the pandemic. Trump’s first 3 years had far fewer jobs added than Obama’s last 3. We made a full pandemic recovery under Biden faster than every economist predicted, defying consensus recession predictions, and reaching a record low recently before creeping up to 6.3%. In addition, Biden has been one of the best labor presidents, enacting new protections and benefits for workers.

  25. I wish other media networks would take a cue from this event. Live fact checking, asking hard-hitting questions and following up on unanswered questions makes for better interviews, more compelling TV and, in-turn, increased ratings. Stop soft balling your questions journalists! It’s boring. Hit em hard and keep hitting.

  26. I wish Biden would ravage Scotus so Trump could not be pardoned.

Come on Joe do it !!

  27. “So I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black? I respect either one …”

That’s a lie right there. He doesn’t respect Indians or Blacks.
