Being serious for just a moment, the Swiss are kind of genius, in an evil way.
Technically, they “give the gold back” – IF a jewish descendant and/or survivor of the Nazi terror
a) comes forward, ergo is still alive (vast majority of Jews who suffered under the Nazis aren’t, entire family lines were ended, so Switzerland can automatically keep most of the money)
b) can prove family ties, which is difficult since the survivors mostly fled without any belongings
c) can prove which goods were stolen by the Nazis (along the lines of a proof of purchase), which is nearly impossible after those who survived fled the country
Good luck with that, considering that most Jews were killed by the Nazis and much of the Gold stolen was never recorded or the records were lost/purposefully destroyed.
But this way, Switzerland can say “we give the gold back!*”

They have the account #’s.
About some of that gold, we don’t talk about it. Or just go ask the 1975 former colonies african leaders about a certain reparations compensation. I’m sure it’s all still there and not back in swiss accounts.
