Defiance in the face of progress – Sofia Bulgaria

  1. I hope everyone complaining about stuff like this doesn’t complain about sky-high rent and housing prices. 🙂

  2. For what it’s worth, I didn’t post this as a “progress bad” statement. I think it’s so interesting to see this little house that must be 100 years old butted up directly next to that apartment building that’s probably from the 90s. There doesn’t even appear to be an alley between them and by the looks of it, the owner of the house refused to sell when that building was put up. Across the street is a communist era brutalist building and in the background is a modern glass and concrete office block.

It’s just a very interesting juxtaposition to me and it shows how Sofia is in the midst of a transition that has been ongoing for about a century.

  3. Considering that roof, most of the defiance is probably in the face of gravity, and not for much longer.

Likewise, the old building in the back has seen better days.
