Lisa Kudrow Recalls Friends Stars Keeping Each Other in ‘Check’ During Early Days of Fame: ‘We Were Way Overexposed’

1. > “There was a backlash for us — like after two or three seasons,” Kudrow recalled. “But, you know, we didn’t know to stop. We’re just doing what the network and studio were asking us all this publicity to do.”

   > “We were way overexposed,” The Comeback star admitted.

   > “I remember the six of us met because we were asked to do something, and the discussion was, ‘Do we do it or not?’ ” she continued. “We always would discuss everything we were gonna do. And what we realized was, ‘Yeah, let’s not do it,” because, really, all we have to do right now is just show up at work. Let’s have like a moratorium on all the press.”

2. I’ll never forget how based David Schwimmer was:

   Him and Aniston were the clear top “stars” of the show, and could’ve easily cashed out for more money, but he insisted that all 6 of them be equals at the negotiating table. (Typically on Network shows, you sign on for 3 seasons before you shoot the pilot, then if the show is renewed for a 4th you renegotiate.)

   I think even in Matthew Perrys book, he says of David (something like) “I don’t just owe him 1, I owe him $30 million.”

3. Yeah, she and Matt in particular. What a journey for those six people.
