Sure, AMC, those are totally the reasons. Good work.
Who the hell is striking now?!?
Lower the price of concessions and maybe more people could afford to go to a movie and get a snack and drink.
No one wants to take a personal loan to go to movie night.
Strikes aside, there’s been very few really compelling reasons to head out and go to a theater. Seat and concession costs are high, and it’s infrequent when there’s a film that makes me want to make the effort to go out to a theater. It used to be that there would be a nice variety of films to see but now it seems the only ones that get good representation in theaters are gigantic blockbusters and even then not all (in my opinion!) are worth the cost and effort to go out to see them.
I also have a home theater that took years to get to a pretty reasonable state so I can avoid the sometimes less-than-ideal theater conditions.
I dunno what the fix is. RLM had a pretty interesting discussion on this a while back and thought the rush to get things out of theaters and onto streaming is probably what’s contributing waning theater attendance and I’m kind of inclined to agree. The convenience is nice though, I have to admit.
Here is an idea, work with the studios and bring back old movies and do theme nights. When we were younger and doing the Rocky horror thing, we had a triple feature and we loved it.
I am sure AMC will take this as a sign to raise the prices some more…
They didn’t make any money with inside out 2?
When the price for 2 tickets to Deadpool & Wolverine, a popcorn and 2 sodas costs more than the gross pay for a day’s work at minimum wage, Hollywood’s fanbase is too broke to afford overpriced movies and underwhelming concessions
Still a shame the Fall Guy didn’t do well
I’ll be honest, I don’t think movies are as expensive as people on the internet claim. Usually it’s just 10 dollars
Though that’s probably because I don’t get any food or drink
I enjoyed HORIZON and was looking forward to Part 2
Just got 2 tickets to Deadpool and Wolverine in AMC IMAX… $60. 🤣 That’s not even counting concessions. I love theaters but this is pretty ridiculous.
For me the price of the movies themselves isn’t so much the issue, A-List makes that more affordable. It’s also not concessions since I don’t eat any. The real issue with going to the movies these days is the other moviegoers. I sat next to a couple on their iPads at a recent showing who had them on the entire time playing games. I had another showing where a couple talked at regular volume through almost the entire movie. At while I can get staff involved, there’s usually only 1-2 people working in the entire theater. So after tracking someone down, hoping they can get the other person to correct their behavior and then get back to the movie, it’s been 10mins++ of lost time. I’ll keep going though because I like the moviegoing experience.
Hollywood should consider an at-home monthly service for first run films because the current $20++ rental price is also unappealing. Maybe make a $200/mo service for first run movies and cap it at 15-20 movies a month. It could also get some exposure to indy and documentary films that generally don’t get the love in the theater they deserve.
Flops? We just got Inside Out 2, Twisters, and Deadpool & Wolverine in the same summer.
They need to update some of their older theaters, some of them are pretty bad and worn.
Thanks to overpaid Hollywood executives refusing to pay fair wages to actors and crew alike*
Fixed your headline for you🫶🏼
20 bucks for one ticket and the concessions being so expensive also nothing but the same shit coming out makes me not go
$25+ for 2 drinks and popcorn.
no, because your snacks are too expensive, I don’t buy your crap anymore
People don’t go to the movies
“Though the quarter was a rough one, things began to shift towards its end. In June, Disney and Pixar’s blockbuster “Inside Out 2″ and Sony’s “Bad Boys: Ride or Die” kept auditoriums full, helping revenues rebound. July, which is part of AMC’s next financial quarter, was even better, fielding hits such as “Deadpool & Wolverine,” “Despicable Me 4” and “Twisters.””
Too bad they’re also overpriced.
My last movie was the kings man in 2021, it was ruined by people turning on phone lights and arguing about seats, that was my last straw, I won’t go back for any movie. There’s nothing worth seeing that I can’t wait for. I have a much better sound system than most people did 10 years ago and I don’t have to worry about deranged people ruing my movie experience after costing me 60 dollars for 2 people.
