Before reading, I am guessing it is because they know in their hearts’ that Trump is indeed extremely weird.
Because they’re weird
Trump republicans are really weird.
Because it’s true…

Because it’s digging up old trauma from their high school days of being relentlessly bullied for being WEIRD. And that’s a GOOD thing. We need to bully these fucking weirdos, we need to remind them they are fucking losers, we need to destroy any amount of self confidence they may have and put them back into submission. They think it’s okay for them to go around spouting their weird shit in public. Back in high school they would have been mocked and ridiculed and bullied relentlessly and there would be no way for them to escape it, so they would learn to keep that shit to themselves and not bother other people. But now that they’re adults and think they can do whatever they want. We need to show them they’re still fucking losers.
The ultimate goal is to bully them so hard they are afraid or ashamed to vote, or even better bully them into self deletion. We need to get these weirdos out of the ballot boxes, that’s how we win.

I’m still on the fence about that label, but even I will admit that a US senator trying to use “I know you are but what am I?” as a persuasive argument sounds pretty damn *weird*.

“Weird” is simple. It can encompass a trove of characteristics, behaviors, mannerisms, and ideas (or lack thereof).
It says you’re not normal, but not in the glorious way Trump wants to be different.

Because their whole worldview is predicated on the idea that they’re the silent majority, that most people actually agree with them. For them to be weird would be to acknowledge the reality that they’re actually not the norm
I think it’s because it diminishes them. When you call them authoritarian threats to democracy (which they are), it makes them sound strong. Calling them weird (which they also are), is dismissive and makes them feel small and weak. They love the feeling of power they get when people talk about all the ways that they’re dangerous. Calling them little weirdos takes that away and they desperately want that feeling of importance back.

I think ‘weird’ is great because it such a gentle insult. Republicans love the shock factor, and this is the opposite of that, so they can’t respond in kind with their usual insults because they are inherently weird insults for politicians to use. Our political system is typically based on attraction, and Trumpian insults are more based on creating division. It works as long as people welcome the nihilism, which is the basis for all conspiracy theories. I think we’ve become tired of hearing it now, and even Q is becoming a distant memory.
This is the slowest jumping of the shark that I’ve ever seen, but DT has been working on it for a while. ‘Weird’ is just the perfect feather to break the camel’s back because it doesn’t contain any subtext that you have to be invested in, in order to use it. It is precise, specific and short lived, like the bite of a Pepperoncini.
For Trump, ‘weird’ is the ultimate insult because ‘weird’ is quietly emasculating – i.e. there is no fear in that term. We know Trump loves to be feared and loves to talk about having power. ‘Weird’ tells Trump that we’re not afraid of him, we ‘re just put off by him and we definitely don’t want to join him and be weird too – otherwise, we’d use a different word. DT would much prefer us to insult him by calling him a ‘Fascist’ and ‘Racist’ because it implies that he has power over us – he feels like he’s winning. ‘Weird’ does the exact opposite of that.

Imo, it’s because it breaks the spell that decades of normalizing conservative behaviors due to the societal assumption they are behaving in good faith.

However, being called weird makes people think about the actions of conservatives and realize that indeed, they are WEIRD!

They love to reflect rightful names and terms given to them in order to dilute the power of the terms, but parroting back that democrats are weird both looks weak and also makes peoplr think about if democrats are indeed weird, and they come to realize democrats are not weird at all!

I think “weird” gets under their skin because it’s an innocuous term. It’s a mild dismissal. Trump liked being considered “dangerous” and “a threat to democracy”, terms that give him some credibility and power. Now Democrats are saying “don’t worry about grandpa, he’s just weird.” It’s emasculating, and it’s too subtle for MAGA to counter effectively. “I’m not weird” is just a pathetic response.
