Sturgeon backs a second vote on independence, but not on EU membership

  1. So Scotland wants to become independent to become a small state in a large organization with even less say on how things are run.

Imagine spending all your life trying to make your country independent, only for the SNP to then lose that by become part of a larger federalising state.

you really couldn’t make it up.

  2. Considering it’s not within her power to hold a referendum on the union; this is all effectively just speculation

  3. Of course, there should be a referendum on whether Scotland wants to become an EU member. And there would also have to be clarification of a few other points. For example, does Scotland want to be a member like Denmark or like the UK in the past, i.e. with its own currency, a common currency with the UK or does it want to introduce the euro.

It would also be new to me that if Scotland becomes independent, it can simply become an EU member; Spain will definitely hinder this because of its conflict in Catalonia.

That doesn’t seem to me to be much better prepared by the SNP than the Brexit by the Tories.

  4. It’s kind of funny when you think of it: people’s choice in terms of independence but not in terms of unionisation. Sort of like what the govt is doing: have to respect people’s choice for sovereignty in Brexit, but won’t allow the Scottish to vote for independence. Perhaps Scotland and England are a match made in heaven after all.

  5. I seriously think the SNP don’t actually want Independence. With the devolved government, they get quite a lot of power and get to run on an Independence ticket as a platform every time. The policies seem to be, do the opposite of Westminster if it works, shout about it if it doesn’t quietly move on. Independence would be the death of them, even if they rebranded.
