Hi everyone,
This is probably a silly question, but I cannot figure out how this taxation works.
||Current (per month)|Future (per month)|
|:-|:-|:-|
|Gross|2000|2500|
|Net|1679|1802|
|**Result**|1802-1679 = 123|(123/500)*100 = 24,6%|
How is that wage increase taxed by 75,4%?! According to the Belgian “belastingschijven” it should “only” be 45%, right?

(I know my current net wage, obviously, but the rest of the predictions were done using [this jobat calculator](https://www.jobat.be/nl/art/hoeveel-blijft-er-van-mijn-brutoloon-netto-over), which seems fairly accurate for my current wage)

My apologies if this is an obvious question, our Belgian schooling system has never explained taxes properly to me.

Echt een achterhaald systeem in my opinion…
Short : Loonbonus
This is an advantage to promote working for people with a lower salary (to make the difference between working and not working worth it). But when your wage increases you lose that benefit.
You can see that currently you’re only paying 16% in both social security and personal income taxes.
Salary below 2500 have reduced taxes and social contributions. As your salary increase you gradually lose that so it makes salary increase very low after taxes.
The FGTB calculator shows it: https://www.fgtb.be/calcul-salaire-brut-net it says that at 2000/mo you get a 170 EUR tax and social contributions discount. But at 2500 it’s only 32 EUR.
1980 gross == 1643 net
1990 gross == 1642 net
Thanks for the hard work and enjoy your raise!
