North Macedonia must change its constitution ahead of membership talks, Bulgaria tells EU

  1. Serious question: after all that shit that happened with the naming dispute, is it possible for the N. Macedonian gov’t to completely revert on agreements if/when VMRO comes into powers? Or is it like what happened with Greece, where even if the parliament changes hands, the agreement will hold for perpetuity?

Very funny though, apparently if agreements like these go through and then states or actors revert on them, we’re to [blacklist ](https://balkaninsight.com/2021/06/09/us-extends-blacklist-of-persons-destabilising-corrupting-balkans/)and sanction them.

  2. At least they are no longer demanding that FYROM (I refuse to use the new name, when the old one was such a banger) signs a declaration that they are all just Bulgarians…

Because that’s what Sofia insisted on until quite recently.

Oh, and all this posturing is of course idiotic. What a great way to tell people that Europe doesn’t really want them.

  3. They won’t stop with bulgarization. Maybe they will insist on them to change last names on all gravestones to sound Bulgarian like they did during their previous occupations…

  4. When were the veto rules going to be cancelled? This veto blackmailing to appease nationalist narratives thing is ridiculous.

  5. I don’t know much about this part of Europe, or N Macedonian/Bulgarian relations. I read through the article but still feel a little confused by what exactly Bulgaria want here. Could someone with a bit more knowledge give an explanation with context?
