““Until summer, [Draghi] is in a position of strength,” said Giovanni Orsina, a professor of political history at Luiss University in Rome. “Stability is confirmed for the next six months or so and during this time Draghi can impose his reforms”
Note that this is mostly true because our senator and diputati will only recieve a full pension if the legislature lasts at least 4 year, 6 months and 1 day
So if the government falls before the 24th of September of this year, they loose lots of money and benefits
This is mostly why they chose “stability” but not for much longer
Here are my two cents on what will happen:
Everyone will pretend to support Draghi for a few more months. They want to be able to recieve the much awaited EU funds but not be seen as directly responsible (that is what Draghi is for). These funds will mostly be misspent and will see a further redistribution of wealth from the poor to the rich. Once this becomes clear, they will blame Draghi, throwing him under the bus like they did with Monti (the Draghi of the 2010s)
At the same time Berlusconi, Renzi, M5*, part of the Lega and part of the PD (ie all the “centrists”) will reform the Christian Democrats (DC). They will rebrand this as the only hope against extremists like Meloni and her FDI. The latter, of course, will surge and eat up the other half of La Lega
We thus will have to choose between Christian Democrats or Nationalist Christians which will be extremely depressing
Right now in Italy, no left wing parties exist (at least none that get more than 1 or 2 %) but, forseeably, a vacum will be created by the creation of a new centre, possibly generating a brand new left wing party or coalition
