Germany taps Greenpeace head Jennifer Morgan as climate envoy: reports

  1. It’s kind of unusual recruiting someone for such a position who first has to acquire citizenship, as if that were some kind of bureaucratic formality like applying for a visa.

  2. Jobs for the girls… Par for the course, just the gender changed. But what else would you expect from somebody purpose-bred by the WEF’s young global leader program? Not that I’d be opposed to putting a lot more effort into preparing for climate change, but with parties like Germany’s Greens it’s bound to deteriorate into yet another round of even more wealth and income disparity. Despite putting some progressive sounding issues in the spotlight of their manifestos, they’re all on the rather symbolic side, which is really all you need to know. No less beholden to the status quo that got us into this mess, but they’re keen to dress it up with sufficient amounts of feel good policies to distract. That’s the state of party politics just about everywhere – polarization on inconsequential cultural issues and any material differences reduced to how to save not the world, but the socioeconomic status quo, mere squabbles on how to achieve the same end result. This appointment fits right in.
