The French EMA announced this Tuesday evening that from February 1 to 6, 2022, a unit of the Takuba Task Force, composed of the Franco-Estonian Task Group No. 1 (TG1) in combat partnership with the Light Reconnaissance and Intervention Unit (ULRI) No. 4, operated in the Malian Liptako. The objective of this operation was to reinforce the presence of the FAMa west of In Délimane, in a refuge area for armed terrorist groups (GAT). It helped push back the terrorists between In Delimane and the Eranga Valley (Mali).
According to the EMA, during this harassment mission, various terrorist groups were located, identified and neutralized by Malian soldiers, supported by the Barkhane force.
The EMA detailed these operations:
– During an infiltration phase on Feb. 1, ULRI No. 4, supported by TG1, engaged a terrorist group in the Inlaglaou area. ULRI No. 4’s excellent response enabled it to neutralize three terrorists and seize equipment.
– On February 2, during a reconnaissance south of the RN20 to the Mali-Niger border, ULRI No. 4 and TG1 discovered three logistical plots containing numerous resources: nearly 2,000 liters of fuel, combat equipment and foodstuffs were seized.
– These operations conducted by ULRI No. 4 and TG1 led to the exfiltration of a column of terrorists on motorcycles towards In Délimane, which was detected on 3 February by a Reaper drone engaged in support of the operation. The engagement of a Mirage 2000 patrol, in support of Malian and European forces deployed on the ground, led to the disabling of about 20 terrorists. Subsequent reconnaissance of the engagement zone, conducted by ULRI n°4, led to the destruction of a vehicle containing around ten kilograms of explosives, as well as weapons and motorcycles.
– On the afternoon of February 5, Malian soldiers maneuvering near the village of Imenas were attacked. Their response, supported by TG1 operators, led to the neutralization of two armed terrorists on their motorcycle.
