Here’s my logic. He was just gaining altitude so he had just recently taken off. The base is well inside Russian controlee territory, so long range Ukrainian fire is unlikely. Lastly, the airplane appears to be in a flat spin with an engine on fire, but otherwise intact. Long range radar guided missiles have giant warheads and would have obliterated the plane or at least broken into pieces.
Thus, some Russians are fucking around again. Probably someone thought it was a Ukrainian drone.
Wonder what hit him, doesn’t the Patriot target the cockpit?
It’s interesting he’s talking about no GPS service where he is. I’m not sure if he means his locator beacon or his phone or he can’t get GPS signal. One thing that is well known though is the Russian GLONASS satellites are starting to die at the end of their service life, and the Russians don’t have the money to replace them.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen footage from an ejected pilot’s POV. It’s pretty spectacular.
