  1. Lmao, gonna go out and try to find those 200 US soldiers…

I think only time US soldiers have been to Finland recently are a few one week visits, which hardly fulfils the title of the graph.

  2. The U.S. European Base Archipelago is a microstate that is larger in population than Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino and Vatican City.

  3. I was stationed in Europe in the early 2000’s and it gave me a deep appreciation and love for it. My experience there was 99% positive with only a few run ins that I’d call bad. I love Europe and wish you all the best and thank you for your hospitality. I also understand if some don’t want Americans there but I am thankful for the opportunity to experience some of the beauty.

  4. Wonder why most isn’t in Poland or baltic states when we are the most vulnerable. Unless they don’t care about who is attacked and just station soldiers there for training.

  5. Finland has 200 troops? Yeah, maybe on vacation.

We’ve done some joint-excersizes every now and then, but they’ve been here only for like a week or two max.

  6. Worth pointing out that while US has no us bases in Ireland. Shannon airport is a de facto refuelling stopover for US military flights. Theres often troops milling around the airport and the bar has tonnes of US military patches on the wall.

It was illegal but allowed by the Government until 2003/2004 when national protests forced them to acknowledge US flights carrying troops, munitions and CIA rendition flights were using the airport. Still happens but it’s legal nowl I guess.

Shannon airport was also a backup landing site for abortive shuttle launches.

Knock airport, a massive airport in the middle of nowhere, was also allegedly funded by the CIA during the cold war to used by the US in some eventuality.

  7. I live close to a base with around 15k US soldiers, and the only thimes I notice it is when Im going to the cinema to watch original english movies (without voicover). Its full with US soldiers and they have compleeeeetely different habits when watching a movie, which I really enjoy.

For example in the original The Avengers film when the Hulk smashes Loki in that skyscraper, these guys were freaking out and jumping up yelling stuff like “lets gooooo” and “get his ass” etc. They react to the movie, which I personally found very funny and engaging.

  8. In the 1990s the russian troops left Germany because Germany regained full souveranity with reunification.
The americans still havent gotten the memo…
