Soldier stabbed near army barracks in Gillingham

Kent Police say a stabbing attack on an army officer near a barracks in Gillingham is not believed to be terror-related. The soldier, who’s in his 40s, was repeatedly stabbed by a masked man. The head of the army said it was an unprovoked attack. A suspect was arrested some 25 minutes later. Locals rushed to help the soldier, who was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.

  24. Solider – wasn’t he in uniform? I’ve heard other reports of knifes found? Also in the part of town where he was stabbed was all the army housing. Anyone who knows the area knows this. I lived in the area ten years ago. There are far too many coincidences!! I feel so sorry for people with MH they really do get the blame for many things they shouldn’t.

What are the odds on him just happening by accident to stumble across an off-duty, uniformed, officer – not a junior officer either – walking on a public road, not in a garrison which would be teeming with squaddies and Military Police patrols, out of sight of the gate guards? That looks to me like a very well planned attack on a specific soft target, along the lines of what the IRA used to do, and they were no amateurs. So yes it is a terrorist attack.
