It is an offence under byelaw 6(8) to interfere with the comfort or convenience of any person on the railway. Merseyrail regularly enforces this byelaw on their customers – why do they not hold themselves to their own standards and prosecute the staff who are responsible for this mishap? This person and their carer should have been ordered a taxi, not left to fend for themselves
I read that as miseryrail, is that what it’s known as?
3.5miles in an hour with someone in a chair is a good pace!
Of course from Time to time, there will always be issues on the railway and I wouldn’t expect every member of staff at every station to know about lifts in another, station being closed or anything like that.
But I think when an issue like this occurs the train operating company needs to react quickly and provide a suitable solution, and in most cases that is a Taxi, they don’t like to do it because it’s costly for them, but it is always an option that they have at their disposal whether they choose to use it or not.
Obviously the staff messed up not advising that the lift was broken, but even if they had the outcome would presumably have been the same requiring him to travel to the next station with a working lift. It seems the bigger problem is the lack of wheelchair accessible taxis.
