  1. Everyone stay cool, man. We’re not going to solve this case in this thread.

  2. This is rightfully a very emotive subject, but I think it’s a massive problem for the legal system if people are unwilling to stand as expert witnesses for the defence, out of fear of reprisals.

However using Dr Waney Squier as an example of someone who was unjustly struck off is stretching the truth. She openly admitted that “I’ve done my best to give an opinion based on my experience, based on the best evidence I can find to support my view.”[^([1])](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-oxfordshire-35787095) However the panel found she was “”dogmatic, inflexible and unreceptive to any other view” which led her “to misrepresent and ‘cherry-pick’ from the literature””.

All that changed when her status was ‘overturned’ was that it was ruled she did not do so dishonestly. It was still found that she “acted irresponsibly, acted beyond her expertise and lacked objectivity”[^([2])](https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/nov/04/doctor-waney-squier-wins-appeal-shaken-baby-syndrome-trials-evidence), and she is still prevented from giving evidence in UK courts.

  3. Why on Earth do they not just put CCTV in every room in a hospital? It would literally have solved everything in this case and we would have proof either way…

  4. Phil Hammond of Private Eye has tweeted that he can’t find an expert to *support* the verdict, so no-wonder medics within the specialty are freaked out.

Funny how, a month ago, it was only nutters concerned about this innit. When in fact, what was going on was that due to the draconian contempt of court laws and the mob mentality atmosphere, it was just that they were the only ones reckless enough to speak out.

  5. It’s extremely obvious at this point her trial was a miscarriage of justice. She needs to be freed immediately.

  6. This says more about the state of the toxic culture within the NHS than Lucy.

My anecdotal evidence is that I’ve worked for the NHS, predominantly within maternity and neonatal wards, I can confidently say that there is a horrendous culture of cover-ups and fear of being ostracised for stepping out of line.

Reputation is everything for departmental heads and part of that is keeping everything in-house. And part of that is scapegoats when things get out of hand and inevitably do go wrong.

  7. “The conviction has had a negative effect on our profession”

No, a nurse murdering 7 babies and trying on 6 more, (while being shielded from repeated suspicion by hospital management, allowing several more deaths) has had a negative effect on your profession.

  8. Oh but apparently “nobody cares” about the Lucy Letby case 🤡
