My takeaway is that it shouldn’t have taken 4 hours to free people from a broken train in one of the main lines in one of the busiest cities in the world.
People should never have gotten to the stage of forcing the door open. Emergency services should have been there much much sooner.
Once the doors where open, did they defecate out of them?
I don’t get why they didn’t put toilets on those trains. They’re not just short hop trains, they travel a fair distance.
Hell even the old 142s had toilets.
This is also a failure of driver only operation “DOO”
There were also 2 non elizibeth line trains that were stranded for a simular amount of time, yet the mood was far better and the evacuation much more coordinated. Both the GWR and the Heathrow xpress trains have a guard (well a non-operatioal one on the HEX) meaning there was someone available to walk though the train and talk to people, and also meet there needs. Having toilets and catering also massively helped, but its understandable not having a buffet car on the liz. London has astronomically more uncontrolled evacuations than the rest of the country, even when counting for the higher usage. Clapham Common, and that time most of southeastern froze over and all the trains broke. Holland park panic. All due to no staff beeing present and people panic due to Perceived inaction.
Had the liz trains had a guard, even just a OBS if they are deadset on the driver doing the doors, I think the whole thing would have gone alot smother.
Slightly off topic, but it would also make train much safer and peasant if there was someone to keep an eye on the crackheads. Its also just nice for people to be able to ask questions and deters crime
