I posted a birth certificate earlier for translation, and after some digging around the attic I found more Lithuanian documents. I am so happy! Yet so sad I cannot read any of it.

Would anyone kindly help me translate them. It’s all I have of my family/ancestors. For all I know it could be poetry, diary entry or stories. I’m not entirely sure.

This was all saved by my Great Grandmother, and I think she hoped one day someone would be able to make sense of some of it.

If anyone could be of help ANY help. And wouldn’t mind taking the time out of their day to convert them to English. I’d be so happy!!

  1. I’m also aware of the amount I’ve provided.. I’m asking a lot. I’m just so curious and interested in my history.

  2. it looks like a birth certificate to me but i cant be 100% sure

  3. first is copy of a birth certificate (ištrauka iš gimimo metrikų)

provided by Diocese of Vilkaviškis (wiki: Vilkaviškio vyskupija); Parson (klebonas) of Griškabūdis roman catholic parish (Griškabūdžio parapija).

    Name and Surname: Jonas Lukšys
Data of birth (in words): 1892-06-24 (June 24th)
    Place of birth: Bliuviškių village
Name of parents: Juozas ir Aleksandra nes Lisbergytė Lukšiai.

“Paduotos žinios atitinka originalą” authentic copy

  4. That is a copy of the birth certificate. The original was lost. In letters Jonas is trying to get information about the year he was born. A church book which contains this information was lost during fire.

  5. cant quite read the letter but it mentions sisters and burned books, and something about court and witnesses, and something about proving their birth in the court, by “attaching” when they were born, a.k.a providing a birth certificate. Hopefully someone can read it better.

  6. A re-issued birth certificate, an invoice from the provider of said certificate (asks to send the money to the intermediary, Jonas’ sister Marijona Lukšytė), a letter from Juozas Švedas asking whether Jonas is absolutely sure he needs these documents, as the originals were lost and any new ones can only be procured through court, which is complicated and expensive, but they’re ready to help.
