Germany is calling for tighter controls on the EU’s borders with Hungary due to the easing of visa requirements for Russian and Belarusian citizens. A German minister called for border controls, citing a high risk of Russian espionage and sabotage.

   The German minister reminded that European treaties allow for border control in exceptional situations.

   “Just as we do with Poland and the Czech Republic, countries such as Austria, Croatia, Slovakia and Romania should do the same. It is unacceptable for an EU country to allow Russians to enter the country virtually unchecked.”

2. I agree with his feeling, but the solution seems useless. A Russian spy determined to get into Hungary would just cross into a third EU state first, and then into Germany. The only solution here would be to secure all of Germany’s borders, or all of the Hungarian borders that connect to EU. Either of these approaches runs contrary to the very fundamentals of the EU.

3. Haha. It’s quite ironic that the EU has a problem with Hungary refusing to open its borders to the migrants but now wants Hungary to tighten its borders to Russians. How about the Russians just say they are refugees, surely the EU will allow them in then totally unchecked and verified🤷🏼

4. Don’t forget that Hungary should not be rewarded for its behaviour. Hungary is the largest recipient of Chinese blood money in the EU and is being used as a back door into eu market for Chinese product like electric vehicles.

   Do not reward Hungary for its anti democratic and pro authoritarian stance. Make it a lesson for Beijing and Russia. Hungary needs to be to taught lessons
