One dead and eight trapped after Hotel Reichsschenke collapses in Germany

   A hotel partially collapsed overnight near the banks of the river Moselle in [Germany](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/europe/germany/britain-or-germany-which-is-better/), killing one person and trapping eight others, some of whom suffered severe injuries in the incident, local police said on Wednesday.

   The body of the deceased person was located but could not yet be recovered, said police, who established contact with some of those still trapped.

   “Due to the nature of the damage, this is an extremely demanding operation,” the police statement said, and the building in the town of Kroev could only be entered by emergency responders with the utmost caution.

   Firefighters and paramedics gathered outside the Hotel Reichsschenke, whose upper floor caved in at around 11pm on Tuesday.

   One emergency responder was seen carrying a barefoot woman out of the damaged building.
