We’re not immune up here to rumours and speculation. Always follow up rumours with a quick check on official sources
It was lies and disinformation on social media that got us into this situation with the riots in the first place. Always double check everything.
Good on police Scotland for getting ahead of the rumourmill here.
Other forces could take a lesson.
It currently looks unlikely that these riots will spread to Scotland. But if they do we have the benefit that the police has had a greater heads-up, and can learn from what’s happening down south.
The goal with these rumours are three fold
1) Get a large group of people to show up somewhere, a large group outside an asylum hotel is going to make the people in it uncomfortable regardless of if you are chanting “refugees welcome.

2) make people less believing and less likely to turn up when the protests actually show up.

3) the people that show up to oppose them are showing up looking for a fight, if there isn’t any anti immigration protesters for them to attack they might start rioting themselves
That’s great for the people spreading these kid on events since it gives them actual footage to justify their hate and attacks, especially if it’s Muslims that do the violence like in Birmingham on Monday

Police Scotland get reports that people are seeing folk organize a protest at George Square. Police Scotland say that can’t be true because they’ve no intelligence around it.
I was told this about 3 days ago by my maw, if she knows something, somethings absolutely brewing.
Like if she thinks a protest is happening, surely people that believe it would turn up and join?
