Borderlands movie called “uninspired”, “unfunny”, and “a disaster” in scathing first reactions – though some of its cast are getting praise

I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you.
I think you have to go into this movie for what it is, a spoof on mad max movies but instead of the budget going to a good director who makes good movies the money went to the actors. I’m going to go see it Saturday as it’s one of my favorite games but I’m going in with extremely low expectations.
See? This is why you shouldn’t talk bad about other movies while you’re promoting a similarly awful movie that you’re staring in…..it makes you look dumb lol.
It looks like a flaming disaster. Half the cast is way too old, the rest is completely miscast or simply annoying as fuck, in that particular ‘I’m cute and sexy, but very quirky and random’ sorta way. I can tolerate Jack Black but I’m sure Gamers will object to his character as well. It’s going to be a struggle for this movie to even recuperate its marketing budget.
I remember youtube comments said “Fallout tv series generate 5 times interest in their game on gamepass, this borderlands movies will create 5 time less”
Jesus Christ, aren’t these the same type of ‘first social media reactions’ that praise every new movie? Like the best superhero movie ever The Flash?
How bad is this movie really then?
Can you see my text
To be fair, I feel like people hated the movie before even seeing it
Starring 2 Oscar winners as well. Damn.
By some of its cast that means Jack right?
I can’t imagine Gina fucking Gershon as Tiny Tina. I can’t imagine Blanchett getting along with that type of production. I’m sure Kevin Hart did alright but he would 100% be the same character he is in every movie. Jamie Lee Curtis is at least more of a sensible choice than Gershon and Blanchett but it’s still a stretch. And…Bobby Lee?
Doubt I will watch the movie. I can’t even finish the game. Too repetitive.
I don’t understand the casting for this film no one who plays Borderlands wanted a Kevin Hart film. All the characters are about 20 years too old.
At no point have I ever thought “wow Borderlands is great! It would be even greater if it was non interactive and had a two hour long story!!”
A game that didn’t need a movie
Here is the thing…not every video game makes a good movie.
But of course Hollywood has set the course, and will beat video game films to death…then they will never make one again.
Which will be a shame, because certain games might make good movies if some more thought was put into the idea.
From I saw Kevin hart was in it I knew
Yeaaaaah… it looked like shit in the trailer, no shocker here. I’m glad Jamie Lee Curtis got a paycheck, though.
If you told me this was a tax write off film I’d understand.
who didn’t see this coming other than blind people
IIRC, don’t people say that you shouldn’t immediately trust first reactions when they claim that a movie is good?
But what about in this scenario? Can we trust when they say that it’s actually bad?
Oh so it turned out like pretty much everyone thought, I’m so surprised…
Once they made it pg13, it lost me. I tried to be optimistic.
I saw a trailer before Deadpool 3 that mainly focused on the robot…. I’ve never cringed so hard
But, but, but they were just awarded the best cast or some BS from SDCC and IMDB. As someone who has spent thousands of hours and dollars on this IP I refuse to see this for any dollar amount. They had a rabid and ready fan base willing to throw all their money at this R movie we were promised. But now I hope this will be enough for someone to rope Pitchford in.
Here’s my guess of what happened:
Production acquired the rights a number of years ago (movie was announced 8 years ago). Rights like that expire at a certain time. Production stalled at some point (likely with Covid) and production ran out of that time to build a good film. So they take actors that can either work for cheap or have a contract already that they can use and throw them into the movie so casting is taken care of. Then all they need is to make the movie and when it bombs, mark it as a loss for taxes, and retain those rights for a few more years.
I figured this would either be a flaming garbage fire, or a shocking surprise hit. I didn’t see any possible middle ground. I knew when the trailers were pretty much just Guardians of the Galaxy which way it was *prooooobably* heading towards.
