I love Tyrellspass, lovely little town, but this does make me chuckle 🤭

  1. They’ve obviously renewed the sign. Which makes it more sad.

  2. The Brits bang on about winning the World Cup in 1966 so…

  3. That’s a new sign too, so they’ll be remembering this for quiet sometime.

“I’m from Tyrrellspass, you might know us as the 1969 tidytown winners”

  4. If the English can still bring up the 1966 World Cup then by god the fine people of Tyrrellspass can remember this grand moment in history.

  5. Wait until you see the “It’s Coming Home” banners come Tidy Towns season…

  6. It’s a nice place, I’m surprised they haven’t won since

  7. Once upon a time in a little village in County Westmeath………

  8. Silly question, but I’m a frequent visitor to Ireland, but not Irish.

Can someone explain this tidy town thing to me? I think it’s for being clean? Is it a big honor that people care about or just something for the Fáilte sign? Do multiple towns win every year or just one (I feel like I see a lot of tidy town past winners). Is it mostly for smaller places? I don’t recall places like Dublin or Cork mentioning past wins.

  9. Ah why not a win is a win remind the people to keep the place clean and maybe win again

  10. Buddy, believe me never long enough. I’m a monaghan man and still get to hear Glaslough brag about being 2x Tidy Towns Champions 1978,2019

Only place in Monaghan to ever win it and probably will remain the sole winner from here
