On this day, the 10th of February 1763. The Seven years war, considered to be the real First World War, ended. It ensured British hegemony over North America, therefore is the reason English is the global language today. And indirectly caused the American revolution due to doubling British debt.

Meh, it’s not a world war by any criteria.
Zero World War
Started by the British General George Washington who then caused the first British civil war overseas a decade later.
_Alexa, define hegemony_
I thought that English is a global language because it’s easy to learn.
Would ya’ll have preferred the French?
Not to mention it precipitated the crisis of the Ancien Régime and, indirectly, the French Revolution.
How was that a world war? And if it was, how was it the first? At least the Mongol conquests were the first world war by that definition. But they weren’t. So cut the sensationalist title BS and stick to history definitions.
-English beat Frenchies in Americas(France lost Quebec and French Canada but Louisiana and West of Mississippi French land transferred to Spanish crown until 1802 when Napoleon conquers Iberia and sells Louisiana in 1804.
– Prussia starts asserting itself over catholic Austria by retaining the important provinces of Slesia, Schlesien in the upper Elbe valley.
This is an important area between Polish lands and the Bohemian mountains and during industrialization, one of the key areas of the major Prussian German coal and steel industry along with the Ruhr Valley, Saarland, Stuttgart and Leipzig.
The French were also effectively thrown out of India (except from a couple of port towns where they were restricted from building any forts) and the British took control of Bengal from the local king allied with the French. Bengal was one of India’s most prosperous province. The British set up their capital in Calcutta and then went on to conquer the rest of the sub-continent.
Also it cemented the Prussian state as one of the big players on the European stage and was the start of the rivalry between Prussia and Austria on the hegemon of the german speaking lands.
The French could’ve won that war when the Russian forces were entering Berlin, but our new Emperor was a Prussaboo and switched sides.
Good thing Catherine btfo’ed that manlet and restored the dignity of our rightfully pissed off armies.
You realize more than 50% of all Nations have to be involved for it to be a world war right ? Not just 2.
People who cal it First World War have no idea what they are talking about and have no knowledge of actual history.
Nice painting, but can’t help but notice that we see a shadow in front of the objects in the picture, so back-lit, but the front is also perfectly lit ..
Saying it introduced English as a global language is a huge shortcut, and a wrong one at that.
So this led to British Debt which led to the American revolution, which led to the french empire helping and causing debt to themselves, which in turn led to the French Revolution and Napoleon, which led to the Napoleonic Wars, which caused the Portuguese royal family to escape to Brazil, which led to the development of that colony, which led to Brazil being given the title of kingdom being ruled as a United Kingdom with Portugal, which then led to the Portuguese prince refusing to return to Portugal and call himself Emperor of Brazil and getting independence, which then led to a civil war in Portugal between the daughter of the Emperor of Brazil and the Emperor’s own brother for the Portuguese throne, which led to the decadence of the royal family that culminated with the assassinations n of the Portuguese king and son and the creation of the Portuguese republic, which then paved the way for the Estado Novo dictatorship, that caused mass poverty across the country, which led to an immigration movement to France, that gave Portuguese the renown of only working in construction sites or cleaning households, thus leading to an overall feeling of being lesser man in France, which in turn caused the french team in 2016 to be overconfident and lose the Euro final to Portugal.
So I guess all in all everything turned out ok ?
And Americans will say that they speak „real English“ and that the UK has the accent.
