Hallo!
I'm Brazillian, my grandma used to live in a german colony here on Brazil from 1920~40s.

She's 96 yo today and lives in a Nursing home. She used to live in a big house that the family is now renting out, so each member took some stuff from the house for themselves.

I took her old Zither. It' a beautiful instrument, albeit obviously damaged by time and weather. I'm working with a Luthier to restore it to its former glory, but we are having a hard time identifying the model.

My grandma originally got it in 1947, and as far as we know, it's a Franz-Schwarzer (american company) Zither, but the place the company logo is usually drawn, there is an old German post-card glued on it, and there is nothing behind it on the wood.

This confuses us, cause the company is american, my grandma is brazillian, and there was a german post-card where the logo should be. And all that being really close after ending WWII.

Anyway, I know its a long shot but I'll post pictures of the Zither and the post card. Maybe you guys can help us identify some place or company the card or the Zither may be from.

Thanks!

  1. The 2nd photo, my grandma holding thr Zither, was originally black and white. It was colored artificially

  2. I don’t know the first thing about Zithers but to me it looks like someone just put the postcard there so you can see a pretty picture in the hole. If that’s the only thing tying this instrument to Germany, I would expect to get more information by contacting the American company.
