Home office flexing. Judges hand out sentences, get back to trying to defraud the tax power cooper.
Good job they aren’t releasing murderers after a tiny fraction of their sentences…oh wait
>Tonight, the Home Office warned that demonstrators could face sentences totalling 32 years in prison for offences including rioting, violent disorder, criminal damage and inciting racial hatred.
The Home Office have laid out some sentencing guidelines for different crimes and Alex Evans, Deputy Audience Editor has got out his phone and added them all up
>While a judge would probably order sentences to run concurrently rather than consecutively, it is technically 32 years’ worth of jail time if convicted of all four offences to the maximum possible length of sentence in these sentencing guidelines.
Doesn’t make such an alarming headline when they’re served concurrently does it?
How many years for child rape?
We have gone from ‘prisons don’t work’, ‘reform and rehabilitation’ and ‘we don’t have enough places in prison for more than a couple months’, to this in the space of 2 weeks.
Genuinely laughable no matter you political stance.
This has been so poorly handled.
I heard on the radio today that people convicted of rioting could face restrictions to their movement out with their community?
Is this a law or power from COVID that wasn’t given back? I know that many of these emergency powers had sunset clauses in them but some perhaps didn’t?
It seems wild to me that the government is suggesting that people’s punishment would be a restriction of movement, I understand many people causing intimidation and violence do indeed deserve punishment but we aren’t living in Airstrip 1 surely?
If they were to use these laws here what’s to stop them firing them across the board for other things?
Fuck me better stick to stealing grannies purses and grooming 14 years old girls then.
Clowns in government.
I can’t wait until one of the 500 people they freed to ‘make space’ for rioters kills/rapes/steals from someone
Good, get scumbags in the bin so the rest of us can live our lives
They’ll all be chucking a wig on and claiming that they’re a woman so they’re in a woman’s jail. I’ve heard newhall is rather nice in summer (I’m from Huddersfield and visit the sculpture park so pass it all the time).
Suspiciously specific length of time.
So Tory politicians going to jail for systematically dismantling the country for 20 years ?
How about the Torys partying when we couldn’t visit dying relatives during lockdown ?
How about the billions in tax payers money wasted on PPE that was never delivered?
How about the politicians/shareholders involved in the water/river pollution scandal ?
Funny how when riots happen that shut down cities so big corporations can’t make money that politicians have a financial stake in …. its 32 years in prison
But nothing for corrupt politicians that have left millions of us almost fucking homeless
