Why do we need so many garbage channels? I don’t see a difference in qmusic and joe. They both seem to focus on the same audience, same music, same low quality talk. Every time I hear it at work, I cringe at the discussion they have of what they had for dinner last night.

  1. It’s insane. You say they’re garbage channels, which is your personal opinion. But what is not an opinion but an objective fact, is that they’re extremely similar.

If movie theatres were managed like our radio spectrum, they would play one movie, the most popular one, on all of their screens. There would be 50 people in every theatre. But don’t you dare point out that maybe all those people would fit into one theatre together and then you would be able to show other movies on other screens. If people didn’t want to see this one movie, it wouldn’t be the most popular movie!

  2. I just fail to see who actually wants a radio channel where they are talking for over 50% of the time.

Seems like a ridiculous idea to me when currently the biggest complaint about radio channels is the fact that they are talking too much or that there are too many ads.

And its own news service? What the hell is the point of that. What’s wrong with Belga?

  3. So Piet Piraat is displeased…

Anyway DPG media rules the country media. And I hear K3 all day on MNM so why bother.

  4. Ik had echt een donkerbruin vermoeden dat ze nostalgie gingen buiten kegelen voor die stomme studio 100 zender. Gelukkig blijft ze bestaan

  5. Can we finally abolish mnm, radio 2 and StuBru? Liberating these frequencies will have the market fill them (or already has it covered to a certain extent). And those players are paying us money instead of using tax
    Money for this bullshit.

radio 1 and Klara should be the maximal footprint of publicly funded radio.

  6. … I wasn’t aware studio 100 was even going to have a radio station… Much less that there’s a limited number of commercial stations that can have a channel at any time.

So it could just as well have been that we wouldn’t have had one of those stations anymore if ‘Spring’ won?

  7. Klara is the only legit channel that isn’t imprinting ads into your brain every hour.
I don’t get that so many people are okay with getting blasted with commercials and drama/hype talkshows and treat radio like it’s a proper and worthy source of media. Like newspaper used to be. All screaming for attention, just so they can take up a space in your head.
    You are the product..

  8. I listen to radio 1 while cycling home and last week I accidentally tapped the button for qmusic on my radio app while leaving. I had to stop one mile in because I could not listen to that shit. Who the hell listens to this stuff out of their own free will??

  9. IMO Q-music and MNM are more similar. Loads of talking, big focus on popular hosts instead of content, jingles all the way, many songs on repeat.

  10. 8 FM frequencies, of which 5 operated by the government and 3 by the private sector.

Aka: how to describe Belgium/Flanders in 1 sentence.

  11. >Every time I hear it at work, I cringe at the discussion they have of what they had for dinner last night.

Well I think the only difference with Studio 100 radio would be that it would be Gert Verhulst talking about what he had for dinner last night. That self absorbed douche is already nearly impossible to avoid on TV, I’m happy I don’t have to hear him on the radio as well.

  12. > Het dossier van Studio 100 heeft het niet gehaald. Studio 100 wou een nieuwe radiozender oprichten, Spring. Het zou een radiozender worden voor volwassenen waarop de helft van de tijd gepraat wordt, met eigen nieuwsgaring en humor.

    and also

    > Spring zal een zender worden voor volwassenen, herhaalt hij. Een radiozender waar er vooral plaats zal zijn voor gesprekken, niet zozeer een muzikale zender. “We willen een talkradio waarop er voor 50% gepraat zal worden, zoals je in Wallonië La Une en Bel RTL hebt. Wij denken dat we dat kunnen invullen. We zijn daar ambitieus in”, stelt Bourlon vastberaden. Meer nog: “Het landschap mag gedynamiseerd worden”, volgens hem.

I think we dodged a major bullet
