‘Empty streets’: Paris restaurants struggle amid Olympic security • FRANCE 24 English

Paris restaurant owners had hoped to see a boom in business as crowds flocked to the city for this summer’s Olympic Games, but instead many along the French capital’s River Seine have been left virtually empty. The reason, owners say, is a police security perimeter that is keeping visitors away.

  1. Paris is looking like a big prison with barriers everywhere… If that's how you organise olympic games, maybe let others do it next time 😉

  2. Whats ironic about police state environments like this is that not only do most people not want to patronize businesses there but and not only do you almost always have to give up liberty in the name of security but they are ineffective at preventing terrorism and crime as well.

  3. Barriers are often put up for Olympic Games to separate free activities from ticketed events. When we went to SLC in 2002 the host city was lined with (I’m assuming) metal barriers covered in Olympic banners. It was beautifully decorated. You knew where Olympic events were even in surrounding cities being held because of the highly decorated gates. Plain metal bars are just tacky.

  4. This is what happens when your government creates divisions amongst people

You live in fear all the time

1980's and 1999's was a much better time and money

The future is very bleak and the Olympics was just a waste of time
