Vooral boomers die sinds 2018 zitten te klagen wanneer er gewaarschuwd wordt voor een nakende hittegolf. “Jama jullie zijn janetten, in de zomer van 1976 hadden wij ook zo’n hittegolf en wij genoten toen gewoon van het lekkere weer”. Rudy, de helft van alle hittegolven die België sinds 1892 troffen hebben we na 1980 gezien. In 1976 was zo’n hittegolf abnormaal, nu zien we dat elke twee zomers.
I visited the Egyptian dessert for the first time to catch some sunrays. That is how much I was craving some sunshine. Tells you enough about the weather here in Belgium.
The weather was shit during most of July in the BeNeLux (and parts of France and Germany). Yet, worldwide it was the hottest on records. Our region was an exception to the rule.
Though if you try and talk about how hot it was, some people (those with laughing emojis) will point to the shit weather we’ve had and laugh at you.
That’s just how the average human works. Something like: “It’s been raining *here*, so it can’t have been the hottest ever. That’s just dumb! You are dumb!”
