Ukraine’s Kursk incursion an attempt to “divert” Russian attention in East • FRANCE 24 English

Russia on Wednesday battled a major incursion in its Kursk region from Ukraine for a second day, the most serious attack on Russian territory by Kyiv’s forces in months that prompted both countries to evacuate several thousand civilians. Citing local commentators, FRANCE 24’s Emmanuelle Chaze said Ukraine is likely seeking to “divert some of the Russian attention and Russian troops stationed in the eastern parts of Ukraine”. If Ukraine manages to claim Kursk, it may use the region as a “bargaining chip” in talks with Russia, Chaze said.

More like diverting attention away from the collapsing Ukrainian lines in the east, these guys were effectively dumped over the Russian border and left to die without air support, fuel or ammunition for more than a few days, meanwhile their colleagues on the Eastern front cry out for reinforcements and supplies to hold their crumbling defensive positions.

  5. The Ukrainian operation makes little sense. Even pro-Ukrainian commentators are aghast about this obvious waste of men and resources: Tatarigami_UA @Tatarigami_UA – 14:23 UTC · Aug 6, 2024: The situation in the Pokrovsk direction is critical, with defenses in several areas collapsed and yet to stabilize, largely due to a shortage of personnel. Diverting nearly a brigade to launch an assault on Kursk Oblast, which lacks strategic sense, borders on mental disability.

  6. China is shining as world leader (which milk sucking infants, english and Christian european knew not until today).
    Russia, north korea, Iran, srilanka and pak are permanent small brothers of China.
    Here, Ukrainian (english and Christian european) can't subdue Russia (China).
    Things revealing, China well planned to carry on Ukrainian russian crisis until english and Christian european's residual reserves emptied (points to be noted are Ukrainian and Russian are own brothers).

  12. Feel the pain. Russia is unable to handle a single post-soviet state armed with a mixture of soviet & old western equipment and Putin`s flexing muscle to an entire NATO where only Poland alone would probably reach Moscow in 2 weeks. Cannot understand this.

  13. Pr stunt those troops are all alone in hostile environment with no support no backup .time will tell , Ukraine needed this cause it was on losing end for couple of months donbas is about to fall

  14. Reporter's speech isn't fluent and uses a lot of "ehh" which is distractiong and should not be the case for a news outlet. Needs replacing :))

  16. Ukraine will likely capture a few more villages on the border but by then Russian reserves would have reached the border and then they will counter attack. Ukraine should have used it's reserves to plug the gaps at Avdivka sector where Ukrainian villages are falling everyday or vuhledar sector where Russian have reached the highway and Russia is few kilometres from Pokrovsk but instead it used them to open a new front in Russia even though it has manpower issues and Russia wouldn't rotate it's troops from Donbass because of this incursion it already has enough reserves in Russia against to fight against Ukrainian troops in Kursk sector. As far as I think Ukraine made a huge gamble

    cos no wars are forever. too expensive…

    do french people know about the cuban missile crisis ? where the soviets were scuppered in building ICBM launch sites in cuba on the USA’s doorstep? of course the USA would want this 🤦🏽‍♂️ why would russia be cool with NATO building missile sites in ukraine ?

    is putin a narcissist ? like boris johnson and donald trump aren’t ?

    perspective… it may be more important than the small details like how many F-16s does it take to change a lightbulb 🤷🏽‍♂️
