After visiting Malta two years ago I started looking into its history of great white sharks for my podcast series, [Shark Files](https://www.thesharkfiles.com/)*,* and recently finally released it.
This episode, [*A Bathing Accident*](https://www.thesharkfiles.com/ep-10-a-bathing-accident), tells the story of Alfredo Cutajar’s 1987 claim of catching the largest great white ever off Wied-iz-Zurrieq, the mysterious disappearance of English swimmer Jack Smedley at Marsascala decades earlier and Malta’s recent Europe-leading record of shark conversation.
This episode has had a lot of Maltese listeners so far and I’ve been surprised and delighted by their response. I just wanted to share it here in the hope that some more people might be interested in this part of the island’s history and may have more to add to the story.

very cool indeed – will checkout the podcast!
Ever since I heard the account of the shark attack at M’scala, I have never swam in deep water again.
