  1. Attacking their financing would probably yield better results. Although I understand that it is a very challenging issue since Iran isn’t the only one financing them.

  2. Any nation that attacks global shipping needs to be invaded, occupied, annexed, and deradicalized. Why is the world putting up with this shit. *sigh*

  3. We can’t, because Dearborn and Tlaib get mad when we do anything in the middle east and we’re too wracked with Post-9/11 guilt to tell them to get fucked.

  4. Oh that’s horse load of BS. They can but they lack the political will to do it. The white house was and still is unwilling to listen to seasoned generals who worked in the region and understand how it opreates… like Gen McKenzie

Not only that but the administration would have to admit they were wrong on Yemen and no US administration would ever admit to being wrong about anythinf

  5. Maybe they should attack the actual leaders that finance and direct these terrorist groups. Does Iran ring a bell?

  6. Well they can, but obviously that would be a humanitarian disaster that harms far more than those attacking shipping.

  7. Sure they can. The politicians just don’t want to.

  8. If it didn’t work with simple force, have they tried using excessive force?

  9. This is the best tl;dr I could make, [original](https://www.businessinsider.com/us-navy-cant-stop-houthi-attacks-red-sea-shipping-admiral-2024-8) reduced by 88%. (I’m a bot)

    > For over eight months, US forces have been working to defend key shipping lanes in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden from relentless Houthi attacks.

    > He said, the idea is for the Navy to maintain the status quo to allow other areas of government and the international community to kick in and pressure the Houthis to stop their attacks.

    > Wikoff's assessment echoes similar remarks made by US officials that the military action taken so far has been unable to stop the Houthis.

  10. This is an embarrassment to the US. With our vast resources there’s no reason for the Navy having budgetary concerns here.

  11. Well…you could but it would require a very heavy fist that the rest of the world isn’t going to like.

  12. Correction: US is not willing to use the amount of force that would be necessary.
I understand why, but it is still a decision that is being made.

  13. They can’t with interceptions and targeted air strikes. Indeed the navy alone with its current mission cannot stop the Houthi.

Now if a 1st Irak war style coalition launched a land invasion in Yemen they most likely could

  14. To clarify, they totally can stop the Houthi attacks on shipping but glassing large amounts of other countries is generally frowned upon.

  15. Nonsense headline that has everyone here who didnt read the article going off on tangents. They arent saying they cant. Of course they could, we all know that. What hes saying is that the current parameters they are operating under are ineffective at achieving the main goal. The US is currently just sailing around playing defense. Shooting down missiles and drones and defending shipping lanes. They aren’t on the offensive. IMO we need to go on the offensive and that includes holding Iran responsible for the houthis actions.

At this pointI think we all are tired of them and irans shit. But its highly unlikely the current admin wants to rock the boat before an election. They’ll try and sit on the fence. Which makes sense considering how big of an issue that could become, it could easily effect voters.

  16. I like how people in the comments are so confident on the US invincibility that they are inventing conspiracy theories on the line that “they can but they don’t want too”.

Maybe they should study a bit of history (even recent one!) and see that the US *has* lost a few wars, or in other cases created a clusterfuck so unsolvable that they had to give up and abandon the dumpster fire of their own making.

But with a WW3 in the making with three or four potential different fronts around the world, doing that again is a luxury that the US doesn’t have anymore.

  17. What if a few missiles “misfired” and hit munitions inside Iran!

  18. I Mean they can

You telling me the most powerful navy in history cant Beat some Terrorists in Yemen

They just cant for other reason they ain telling

  19. they absolutely %100 can.

Just don’t want to due to international pressure and humanitarian crisis that will follow.

  20. > “We have certainly degraded their capability. There’s no doubt about that,” Wikoff said. “However, have we stopped them? No.”

    > “Our mission remains to disrupt their ability and try to preserve some semblance of maritime order while we give an opportunity for policy to be developed against the Houthis,” he added

this is not really news, folks. you can’t military annihilate a guerrilla force with airstrikes. he’s calling for the international community to decide on a more permanent solution

  21. It’s actually very simple:

    Leave them the fuck alone

Let the ships take the longer route – anyone in the west can pay the difference, no one needs Shein and Temu anyway

The global logistics will adjust, it’ll take half year, but will be no big issue

At some point there will be 0 ships in the Suez Canal and that’s when Egypt looses money and stuff gets interesting – let the Arabs for ONCE deal with their own shit.
Let Egypt and their neighbors deal with Iran and it’s Proxies when the Canal won’t bring money and when their imported stuff gets more expensive because it needs get around the globe to them….

That’s probably the only way to get traction against Iran in that region, it has to hurt them and not us…..

  22. Anything can be stopped with force, the question is how much?

  23. They could destroy their infrastructure to build and launch drones and missiles capable of harming global shipping.

  24. It’s expensive to be there doing this for the international community and no one seems to want to help foot the bill or just simply help solve the issue.

I say we dip out and spend the money on a national pizza party.
