Pine-ta larga please boss and a double vody for the missus. Thirsty work watching young Bazza go down the lazy river..
It will be like being at the water park in Magaluf. I don’t think they’ve had all that many alcohol related drownings.
An aside, but at my school there was a guy who was a prefect, a cadet leader and a bullying twat. Gave people no end of hassle for very minor or even imaginary crimes.
I went to the local theme park one summer with a friend- not knowing bully boy worked there. Alcohol and baking sun had obviously done its work on some of the park customers, and we had the pleasure of watching him scrub puke off the waltzers.
Not quite so high and mighty now, eh Jeremy?
>If the plans for Alpamare in Scarborough are approved by councillors next week, alcohol could be served within parts of the site, but would remain banned from the children’s area and changing rooms.
Bad news kids, you’re going to have to smuggle your own WKD in still.
Honestly though who needs a drink at 8 am
I know you can’t nanny people but some folk will do it just because it’s there .
I like a drink but for sure I’m not getting hammered at a bloody water park , especially not if we are on a day out with the kids . Dangerous I think
Surely it is because it is part of a wider complex involving food and a spa and suchlike and this is blanket opening hours, they aren’t expecting people to actually get pissed at 8am.
“Objectors say plans to serve alcohol at Alpamare could result in anti-social behaviour”
Given what we know about alcohol and people, pretty sure they can change “could” to “will definitely”.
I like a nice pint or six, but there’s a time and a place to drink. Eight o’clock at a water park isn’t it.
The only time I ever drank so early was at a Wetherspoons near the train station, and this was the start of a pre-planned birthday celebration pub crawl.
Alcohol and morning swimming…. it’s a winning combination!
Alcohol really makes a day out all that much better.
This just shows the difference in consuming alcohol to say places in Germany or other European countries.
The aim is not to get “steaming drunk” but to enjoy it and socialise.
There are places in Germany that lets you consume alcohol in pools like this without issues of anti social or violence.
I don’t see the issue. People that want to drink at 8am at not going to pay to get in a waterpark to then pay inflated prices for alcohol when they can just go to a spoons. There will be no parents drinking at 8am either. Maybe from about 11am and usually one of them but not 8am. I base that on the many holidays abroad I have had and places that supply alcohol as I’ve never seen parents getting pissed at 8am. The earliest I reckon would be about 10am.
Didn’t see it in the article, but they did used to serve alcohol up until a few years ago (Covid possibly). It was one of their primary attractors for what was otherwise a notoriously expensive waterpark. This proposal just sounds like a reversion to the previous policy.
Nothing like an evening stein in the outdoor pool.
I was really hoping they’d rebuilt the waterpark opposite peasholme park from my childhood off the title!
Meh want could go wrong…..
In other news good luck at the A&E and local in clinics Scarborough.
Other water parks in different countries do that, like Siam park where plenty british people go. Not sure if it’s ever been major issue.
People are getting their knickers right in a twist here. There is a big difference between getting a class of licence which allows them to serve from 8 til 10 and them actually serving from 8 til 10. And even if they did, it’s a fucking water park not a boozer. It’ll just be so that the bar or whatever can just open up and serve what it serves from the moment the places opens rather than having to manage selling different things at different times.
Besides, if I was a parent and I had to hang around a water park in my time off work and watch a bunch of kids screaming and shouting then I’d want a drink too.
Owned by the council an drun by flamingo land. Go figure!
Went to one in Spain where they had alcohol, got a Bud at 2pm, tasted so good.
Sounds like a bad plan, but I don’t really want the *government* making such decisions. It’s all inside the water park, and won’t affect much outside.
It’s also a bad plan to make the water in the water park be strawberry flavoured. But the government isn’t setting rules on that.
It’s well known that alcohol and swimming are a good mix. Nothing like inebriated parents drowning whilst trying to look after their young kids. Truly what memories are made of.
I took the kids to a massive water park in the Czech Republic last year and they had bars in the centre of most of the larger pools. No-one was drunk and only a fraction of the crowds were drinking alcohol (rare for the CZR).
This is so on track for Scarbados, I can’t even say I’m surprised.
People really object to anything just for the purpose of having a moan.
This is just targeted at alcoholics. Quite a predatory decision to profit off people’s unfortunate addictions when they’re likely spending time with their children. Sad.
god forbid you have a pint while your sitting watching your kids have fun in the waterpark for like 4 hours.
Ah! Drunken night swimming, what could possibly go wrong?
Amount of people that drink that early will be miminal. There is a pub near me that serves alcohol early and its always dead. Just get people who worked nights who want a drink after work and of course the older guys who are probably alcoholics but are really no trouble
Anti social behaviour is used alot to object, but its not like you will get stag dos drinking at that time
ITT: Numerous commentors who struggle to realise that much of the population can enjoy having a drink without being a literal alcoholic who’ll get wasted and end up drowning
Approve it but all cocktails must incorporate pool water.
Someones trying to up grimsby at day drinking I see
