Pretty standard and sensible advice, given the potential for the country to be drawn into a conflict that doesn’t seem to be showing any sign of slowing down
Yes I’ve got my ticket to Beirut, but after last night will it calm down? It’s at the ready anyhow.
I feel so sorry for the Lebanese people. Their country just can’t catch a break, and the average citizen has basically no say over which militia will start a war with Israel causing then to be bombed, or which corrupt government will be 2,000 tonnes of nitrate mouldering on the docks.
A cruelly unfair situation.
As far as I’m aware we are there to protect Israel from future Iranian rocket attacks and make sure aid gets into those who need it. This time, we’re trying not to get too involved, and our message to Israel, who’s not really listening, is to reign it in. We really don’t want this conflict escalating into a full on Iranian Israeli war.
And just like that, somewhere, an Irish person’s ears instinctively pricked up.
