Just ignoring the ethical side of the argument: reparations are discussed at the end of the war between the winning side and the loosing side. Poland didn’t win the war, their reparations were negotiated by the Winners and probably were part of the sovjet reparations. They should be the first to ask (Russia). The topic is highly complex, in reality you can’t force something like reparations unless you have an army ready to take it by force anyway. That’s only possible after the war, not 80 years later
The Polish government is harping on reparations for two reasons (IMHO):
1. It makes great fodder for the electorate and since Germany won’t pay the reparations they can then turn around and bitch about the “EEEEEVIILLL GERMANS!!!” on national TV.
2. EU infrastructure funds (the modern day Marshal Plan IMHO) have some oversight (I assume that’s how they work in a general sense) so they can’t be easily pilfered by politicians trying to do favors for themselves or their friends.

They went for maximum civilian casualties in those bombing runs.
The fight was 2089 planes Vs 28 planes and 25.000 were killed. The bombing was designed to trap civilians in a ring of fire around the city and burn the city outside-in, so people couldn’t escape. They even did an extra bombing run to kill firefighters and rescue crew.
Edit: I assume the downvotes mean that the civilian Germans deserved it, including women and children. Yes, the Nazis were assholes, but we don’t systematically kill civilian Afghans because the Taliban are assholes either.

This is just another way to milk taxpayers money using nationalistic posturing as an excuse, not an actual attempt to get reparations from either Germany or Russia. PiS in fact has an entire budget dedicated to financing far right/nationalistic initiatives, called [Fundusz Patriotyczny](https://oko.press/fundusz-patriotyczny-kosciol-glinski/), where tens of milions of złotys go into hands of people pushing for (among other things) attacks on women and LGBT+ rights, religious fundamentalism and further whitewashing of our history. I would be really surprised if this „Institute” wasnt one of those.
I’m not going to lie, it deeply hurts me as a Pole that potentially hundreds of people here have 0 qualms about abusing the biggest tragedy in our country’s history for personal gain. The fact that their actions will make lives of many regular folks completely miserable feels almost like an afterthought for those pests. It just sucks that so many people here easily take these kind of baits, unfortunately the national trauma runs deep and the way history here is taught doesnt do us any favors either.
