Super interesting if indeed HIMARS. As far as I understand USA allowed for HIMARS strikes in Belgorod as they could justify the use in a defensive manner. This would be first time (to my knowlegde) that a high profile US weapon has been used for targets in Russia in an offensive manner.
I’m wondering if this was the play of the Kursk offensive all along: Force Russia to rush a bunch of equipment to the area, now in range of UA’s longer range weapons like HIMARS. Putin can’t afford the political black eye of allowing Ukraine to hold Russian territory long-term, so his only play is to pile on the new front. Unlike the main front where Russia is heavily dug in, these are going to be big columns of troops and equipment in the open and traveling on predictable routes to get to where the fighting is.
