German police blames victim after racist attack in Berlin

  1. Words alone are not reason to provoke an assault. Not least of all by 6 other adults. If people are bothered by someone insulting them or shouting then they need to stop being so weak.

  2. To be precise: the berlin police never blamed the victim.
But it claimed in the initial statement that the girl was attacked for not wearing a mask.
When i actual fact she was violently beaten after asking a group of 6 adults to put on a mask on the subway

Edit: berlin police not federal, german police

  3. If I undertood this article, the initial claim by police is that she provoked an attack by not wearing a mask. Then they retracted after it was show that she did in fact have a mask.

If this is correct, then it is still really fucked up. Not wearing a mask would never justify harassment, much less physical violence.

  4. If you’re gonna tell someone what to do, you might want to make sure you can back it up.

Would you go up to 6 drunk soccer hooligans and tell them to stop yelling & being rowdy by yourself… No you wouldn’t because you know how thats gonna end.

  5. This article is from Turkey’s official governmental news agency so take in the information with caution they mostly do propaganda.

  6. she’d been attacked for not wearing a mask and not for being turkish! That’s what police said.

  7. Are those great immigration policies starting to pay back now ? You reap what you sow.

I would like to openly apologise for being and idiot and grossly misinterpreting the article . Feel free to downvote.

  8. It happened in a *very* well to do/rich part of town, very odd and out-of-place if true. And there’s millions of Turkish people in Berlin so it’s not like they are a minority there, or newcomers.

  9. Why is everyone in this subreddit so racist towards turks? It’s so stupid also if someone mentions you are being racist, you people are just downvoting that person

  10. If she’s Turkish, this can’t have been racism. I’m not defending the attacks on her in any way, but any attack directed towards another ethnicity, especially if that ethnicity is Turkish, is not racism. Being Turkish is not a race. The proper term is xenophobia or ethnic hatred.
