Because capitalism demands ever growing profits
Because the government printed too much money.
Because the money corporations have saved by effectively reducing wages through not keep parity with inflation and by requiring one worker to do what was once the job of three is not enough for them.
Do they care that they are eroding their own customer base badly when this behavior is applied by all companies? Not really. They’re too blind with greed and motivated by the next quarter for that.

I noticed this immediately with a can of altoids yesterday. I was devastated.

This happened to me with a jar of pickles. It was like they removed half the pickles and just gave me a jar of pickle juice. Like… how much are they saving by shorting me 20-30 pickle chips?
