  2. I don’t know how lead works in this. Depending how you cut up north America you could have between 3 and 23 countries…

Also if we’re going by Geographic Europe up too the Ural mountains then we include Russia, Belarus, and Hungary…and that democracy does not make.

  3. I don’t understand how it’s calculated. If France is flawed. France has one of the Best healthcare in the world. Also they protest about anything. Which is good cause the government can’t afford to have monthly strikes.
    A bit odd.

  4. It’s a flawed index though, if you look into the actual criteria they use. It has some serious blind spots and questionable value judgments.

  5. I did find it really hard to believe that the UK is higher than say France, Spain or Estonia, but then I realised it comes basically from the political participation score being higher.

“In academic and media discussions, some have argued that increased popular participation in politics, as reflected in the rise of populist parties and anti-government protests, has been bad for democracy.”

  6. I might be biased, but I have a hard time believing the US to be rated that highly. Especially in political participation with so much gerrymandering and minority vote suppression going on.
