  1. Raced to their deaths from the looks of the first sacrificial victims of Putin’s Panic.

The worst is yet to come. Why doesn’t the Kremlin just roll over and accept the inevitable and surrender Kursk oblast? That would be ridiculous right?

  2. The only way they ever take cities is leveling them. Will they do that to their own cities?

  3. Murphy’s Laws of Combat Operations: 14) The enemy diversion you’re ignoring is their main attack.

  4. I think the Russians are quite possibly going to have some trouble here. They don’t have near as many vehicles as they did two years ago, and they also really can’t use their standard battle tactic of levelling towns with artillery, because it’s THEIR OWN TOWN. Add to that, the Ukrainians have a lot more drones now, and other more advanced equipment since the last time there was any real maneuver warfare going on.

What bugs me about reporting on this situation is how so many bloggers, etc. just seem to assume that the Russians have ready reserves just hanging around that can be deployed to push back the Ukrainians. I am not convinced that that is the case. Certainly not well-equipped reserves.

  5. It’s HIMARS O’clock here… Hope to see it tomorrow..

  6. >Four days into Ukraine’s invasion of Russian territory

Achievement failed: Moscow in 3 days

  7. I hope that when they get there, Ukraine will open another front somewhere else

  8. I hope they’ve got a great trap set for any Russo support

  9. The really big problem for Russia here is that they have already dismantled most of their national security forces and sent them to Ukraine.

About a year ago, Moscow told all the provinces and regions that they would have to provide everything themselves from now on. Including border patrol and territorial defense. So Kursk has been defending itself with local militia and hired mercenaries, like some kind of feudal principality. The central state has nothing at hand that they can offer in order to help.

So they have to grab troops from the only place left where there are any troops, namely, the Ukrainain front.

Ukraine is basically setting up another one of their double binds. Like when they made Russia choose between Kherson or Kharkiv. This time it’s a little bit larger scale…

  10. In putins very limited defense, 2 days ago he had a meeting with his defense ministers where gerisimov told him 600 Ukrainians were killed, many tanks are destroyed, and they are fleeing back to their borders.
Obviously a lie, but, when you’re a dictator, who would you believe – the head of your military, or reddit?
The obvious choice is reddit of course. But, thanks to this level of soviet incompetence, the Ukrainians are running free inside russia. I hope gerisimov gets a medal and promotion for this.
