Putin declares state of emergency as Ukraine invades Russia

Russia declared a federal state of emergency in the Kursk region on Friday as Ukrainian troops continued a cross-border incursion for a fourth day.

The order came as Russia’s defence ministry said its forces “continue to repel” a Ukrainian attempt to break into the Kursk region, the most substantial incursion into Russian territory of the war so far.

In his Thursday evening address, Volodymyr Zelensky, Ukraine’s president, without directly referencing the offensive, said: “Russia brought the war to our land and should feel what it has done.”

  14. The embarrassment is no sanctions worked, militarily 31 against one no results. Billions spent still nothing. Now this is clearly desperation. Negotiations are around the corner. Zelensky knows it.

  23. This is Russia’s greatest weakness.
    Yes, they can erect a supply line and flood the enemy with trash people who don’t even want to be there and force them to march until the enemy runs out of bullets.

    But dealing with unexpected events like this requires quick thinking from NCO’s on the ground who can make independent decisions. This is actively discouraged in Russia, especially the military. The Zombies don’t know what to do.

  27. This is incredibly dangerous for Ukr & any NAT troops. If they are in Russ land, Put could literally deton8 a nuke where they are and claim it was done in their own territory as an unscheduled test, and that those affected shouldn't have been there without permission. It'd be the sort of chess move I'd expect to see from Put.

  30. People are celebrating it, but they domt know that Ukraine invaded internationally recognized ukrainian territory, which means Putin could easily use nukes on its own territory.

  33. Now he has all the excuses he needs. According to the Russian constitution all is in on the table now. Russia will use devastating power . So many dead more ukrainians than anything. Not many soldiers with experience left
