I never thought 2024 would be the year we’d see people routinely go to prison for “sharing thoughts they haven’t even acted on” but here we are.
Oil protestors. Yobbos on Twitter. Those are easy targets because the public don’t like them. But as always with authoritarians the groups targeted will gradually expand depending on the government of the day.
Where will we draw the line on what conversations could land you in prison without having even acted on it?
And even if you trust Labour with these powers would you trust, say, PM Farage?
Yes obviously an authoritarian right wing PM could always bring in heavy handed surveillance policies themselves but it’s quite something when the opposition has already brought those powers in and normalised their application in the eyes of the public…
Wait till the police find the detective fiction section of the library
What about Andrew Tate? Surely there should be a warrant out for him
Since this makes the fascists attack me, it’s obviously worth posting again.
For anyone who is flooded with Reddit Care messages by people who abuse the feature, you can report the message and Reddit will look up who is abusing it and take appropriate action. You can also reply STOP to the Reddit Cares message and it will prevent any further messages being sent to you.
Freedom of speech is not freedom from consequences for what you say.
Regardless of how much of a racist twat these guys were being, it’ll never feel right to me that posting online can be illegal. If the government has the power to arrest you for your opinions, eventually they’re going to follow their incentives and make criticising the government illegal.

Just a reminder to report hate speech to Reddit and where it falls within guidelines, also report it here:
