Not sure if it’s a thing in all the UK or just Scotland but why are there so many hot water warnings here? Haven’t seen this in any other country.

Another thing I have only seen in this country is that it’s really common for businesses to have a sign asking you to please treat their staff with respect and not berate them, harass them, etc… does that actually do anything? If you’re the type to berate a bank teller or bartender are you gonna think twice because of a random sign?
Was there separate hot and cold taps to mix in the sink? The former can be much hotter if you’re used to a single mixed tap.
It’s because sometimes the hot water is literally hotter than the surface of the sun.
Other countries have mastered the mixer tap 😂
Probably because we are expecting everything to be cold/ lukewarm i.e.
Hot weather in Scotland = over 20 degrees c
It is a stupid H&S, they are afraid they will have same blame culture as US. You know, where is blame, there is a claim. That way, I warned you – hot water.
Our water is just that sexy it needs a warning
Because the water be damn hot sometimes
Due to US tourists not able to take responsibility and for the hotel thinking if they run hot water really hot it stops legionnaire.
Health and safety.
It’s just stating obvious so that the hotel doesn’t get sued. Same as the wee silica gel packets you get in boxes that say “Do not eat”!
Because the British are obsessed with health and safety.
You have to remember that these people are dumber than a bag of hammers.
We get them here. They really piss me off because these stickers should basically say “Our thermostatic control is fucking garbage but if you scold yourself, we did warn you.” Cheaper to get a sticker than sort out the issue.
Because people be stupid then try to sue for their stupidity. With the sign they cant say they were not warned.
On a slightly related subject, about 10 years ago I worked with a German exchange student who asked me why we are so worried about fire in this country. She was not used to seeing so many signs in public buildings for fire exits, fire doors, assembly points etc. She reasoned that there must be a particularly high risk for some reason. I don’t know if the UK has more awareness of fire safety than most other countries but it seems we have more signage than in Germany.
Quite surprised me when I got here, I think in the UK they love a lawsuit and warnings signs moron-proofs you
It’s for legionnaire’s let’s the building owner run the water over 60 degrees to kill the germs
All the Premier Inns we stayed in in Wales had them. Even by the shower.
Behind every health and safety sign is an accident or an idiot.
My guess would be legionella control leads to this. Water temperature at outlets should reach 50 degrees to limit legionella growth in the system. In order to achieve this the main tank will likely be sitting somewhere between 60 and 70 degrees. The furthest tap in the system needs to reach 50, so any taps closer to the storage vessel will likely be hotter. Hence the signs. Or TMV’s can be fitted.
Mixer taps were actually banned in the UK by law.
This was to protect the mains water supply from potentially contaminated water that could have been sat in the hot water tank for months. With the invention of none return valves and Combi boilers for on demand hot water this became a none issue and mixer taps were introduced to the UK.
UK legislation. If the hot water is over a certain temp then it must be labelled in any place the public may use it. Most either keep the hot water temp low or use under-sink thermostatic mixers to bring the hot water temp down.
Some just put a sticker on the mirror and let you deal with it.
