funny fact about Yugoslavia is that by the end of the 80s its national debt of approx USD20bn was considered untenable and was the excuse for imposing economic reforms that the World Bank had said, earlier in the decade, might lead to increased ethnic tensions
why don’t you go and check the national debt of former members of Yugoslavia NOW — in 2018 the national debt of Croatia alone was **$40bn** ha ha
this alone should be enough to indicate that we receive only false stories about this region in many news sources
the break up of Yugoslavia was a process of deliberate society-destruction; the work was incomplete as the economies there have not yet been fully absorbed by the West
it seems like we’re in for another push huh
The video is decently done, at least it presents the status in the country as things currently stand.
Now the problem is that they place the blame solely on Serbian leadership and don’t mention that a lot of responsibility for this situation lays with Bosniak leadership.
The video mentions that all national leaders are corrupt but it can not be stressed enough how large are these political and financial corruption networks. A local preschool can not employ a cleaning lady without a green light from the local “party” in power. The country is literally destroyed by corrupt systems of power and now when the financial burden is becoming to large to be supporter by the country tax base things are starting to escalate. And using nationalistic rhetoric is a way to stay in power, but the problem is nobody can back down now. For Dodik the political calculus is simple, tear down Dayton or lose power.
That worked out so well last time. Now just get Russia to back the Serb nationalists. Oh wait.
Bosniaks only problem are the Serbs yea. This country would be Switzerland. Something going bad let’s blame Serbs easy
serbia is a broken record
The Republic of Srpska can’t secceede because they depend too much on the rest of the country economically. Dodik, the Serb leader, has threatened seccession every now and then. Taking him seriously on that is a waste of time. In this round, he isn’t even threatening to break off but to return the constitution as it was before 2004.
The biggest issue in B&H is that serbocroat Muslims have the same idiotic notions that the Serbs had in Yugoslavia: that the entire country is theirs. They copy Slobodab Milošević’s policies as much as they can, but lack the power he had. Just as Milošević took away autonomy from Kosovo, so too do they want to take it from Srpska. Just as Milošević imposed a non-Albanian to represent Kosovo, so too did they impose a non-Croat to represent Croats.
Bosnia ans Herzegovina can only exist as a more decentralized and federated state. As such, it is only the Croat side that really strives for a functional country while the Serbs and Serbocroat Muslims live in their fantasies. Naturally, it was only the Croat side that accepted every peace plan for B&H back in the day, while again the other two were just too focused on their fantasies.
Oh, yeah. It’s all coming together.
Yeah, EUs little pet project don’t do so well and let’s blame everyone but not EU
The Balkans never disappoint! This one’s a certified hood classic!
If they try anything, Croatia will occupy Bercko and cut their territory in two parts. The End.
I think it would be easier if Serbia annex Sprska, Croatia annex the Croat parts of B&H and the rest remains as Bosnia.
Good old Balkan conflict
Well, we from Bosnia can’t stress this enough: THERE.WILL.BE.NO.WAR.WE.DO.NOT.TAKE.THIS.STUFF.SERIOUSLY.OK?
You care about Bosnia? How about this piece of information – the EU would like to postpone elections now when the citizens of both entities are learning about the connection and cooperation of highest Bosnian state officials, security agencies and police forces with narco cartels. How does that sound to you for a headline…
